Renewable Energy Sources
We are steadily getting closer and closer to an energy crisis. We have to reduce our dependence on non-renewable energy sources like coal and petroleum. We are going to run out of these natural resources very quickly if we don’t change our energy use habits. Using renewable energy is the only way we can achieve our goal of becoming less dependent on our non renewable natural resources. There are three major types of renewable energy sources: solar energy, hydro energy and wind energy. All three of these energy sources provide an excellent way to get off the power grid and help you become less dependent on nonrenewable energy sources. Not only do they help you live greener, they save you money as well.
Solar Energy
Using the sun for power is one of the very best sources of energy. The energy emitted from the sun is the most abundant source of energy on the planet. This is a free energy source that we all should be using more often. Some examples of using solar energy for power are solar heating systems, solar cooking systems, solar lighting, solar clothes dryers and solar vehicles. Just to name a few.
The advancement of solar technology has allowed us to convert the sun’s heat and light energy into power for our homes, businesses and vehicles. This is great news for us as these solar energy systems have excellent advantages over using traditional power sources. They, not only, provide a low-cost energy source but they are environmentally-friendly as well. This allows us to live more of a green lifestyle and, perhaps, a little more guilt-free.
Solar systems are very low maintenance and inexpensive to set up. These factors make solar systems very economical because the longer you use the system, the less money you will spend on power from traditional sources like the power company. After a short amount of time these solar power systems begin to actually pay for themselves, thus becoming free to use. There are other advantages to using solar power solutions for energy. Solar power is a very healthy way to cook your food and a low-cost method of lighting your home.
More and more families are using solar power solutions to become less dependent on non-renewable fuel for energy in their homes.

Hydro Energy
Hydro power production is, most commonly, achieved by using the movement of water as energy. The process of boiling water to produce steam is used as well but is less common. Hydro electricity is generally made on a very large scale by dams being built on rivers and other bodies of water and using the natural power of gravity to feed the water through turbines. This process makes up approximately 19% of total electricity production by the entire world and is one of the most common renewable energy sources worldwide. Although it is not used very often, hydro power can also be used to power your vehicles, businesses or your homes.
Wind Energy
Wind power has been used for energy for centuries. It was originally used to crush grain, pump water to fields, and even to power sail boats. Recently, wind energy has been used on a much larger scale to generate electricity by using windmills or wind turbines. Wind turbines and windmills can generate an enormous amount of energy by using the natural power of wind to turn propellers and converting that mechanical energy into electricity. Countries like Denmark rely on wind energy for up to 25% of their total power use with that number rising every year. Wind power is an excellent source of renewable energy generating around 1.5 million megawatts of power every year. When used on a smaller scale, wind power is an excellent source of power for your home.
